A Story Grows from Amber

This composition definitely makes no attempt to look like an ordinary brooch. Here we have a large striped stone, known by the German name Schalenblende, which is a visually striking natural combination of several different minerals. It forms something resembling a fanciful crown; beneath it gleams a domed piece of amber, while the whole composition continues into a long, slender silver element ending in a small sphere. Between the amber and the stem sits a small green emerald.

Most of the action happens at the top

Above the striped stone grows an entire group of tiny silver and golden-toned forms. Some resemble little figures, others buds, branches or entirely imaginary creatures. It is difficult to decide what they actually are – which is probably exactly why they work so well here :)

Amber at the centre

The oval natural amber has a deep honey-cognac colour with dark branching inclusions. Its smooth domed surface contrasts strongly with the layered pattern of the stone above it. A small emerald adds a cool green accent between the two.

A large piece with an even larger gesture

At 12.5 cm long, this brooch pendant is certainly not discreet jewellery. It is made for someone who likes jewellery as a small three-dimensional composition – with rhythm, movement, detail and a touch of theatricality.
